Mount Shasta, Calif. -- The 50-plus tank cars that have been sitting along N. Mt. Shasta Blvd. for the past three weeks should be gone soon, according to Valero, who owns the fuel.
Valero spokesperson Bill Day said Union Pacific will begin moving the tank cars beginning today or tomorrow, March 6. They are headed to one of Valero's refineries elsewhere in California, Day said. Day said the cars' presence in Mount Shasta was a "temporary situation" and there is no intention of using those tracks as a permanent storage area.
Union Pacific spokesperson Aaron Hunt said the tanks have been sitting on tracks owned by the McCloud Railroad. Questions were referred to Court Hammond, who is listed as the CEO of the Yreka Western Railroad. Phone calls and emails to Hammond have gone unreturned.
Does Court Hammond now have some connection to the remains of the McCloud Railroad?
