I feel your pain! I grew up while they were nearing
their retirement but have not a single photo of one
in action. The only one's I've seen were by chance
along I-95 as a passing glance out the window.
I do recall seeing a zillion of them parked at
Wilmington, DE - once again, a passing glance from
I-95.
As for the condition and location of #4800 - I have
pictures of her at the Museum (prints), and she looked
great.
I believe she was donated in 1980, painted in 1982 and
brought inside but for some odd reason, placed back
outside in 1984? And from there...
I'd love to find out just how the Museum makes it's
decisions on one gets restored, what waits, and what
comes in vr what stays outside.
Seems most the smaller and the oldest pieces are on
the top of the list.
Pics from the 90's tell another story - I have to assume
it's the asbestos abatement that started a new restoration
cycle.
