What you described rarely happens anymore. That's why I said derailment investigation is hardly a science except when the NTSB and FRA is involved.

So few managers are sufficiently competent or have time for a proper investigation. Hulcher is on scene without hours to bulldoze the scene and destroy the evidence. Thus, wide gauge is an easy culprit that nobody can dispute later.
