Schiff is presumably a big supporter of public transportation, so this is a little counterintuitive, isn't it?

Besides, a rail facility has been at that site for what, 80 years or more? There is no one alive today who lives in that neighborhood who can plausibly claim, "trains? I didn't know there were trains!?"

Yes, it sucks to be poor. You don't have as many choices and maybe your neighborhood isn't as clean and quiet as you would like. But I'd bet that the pollution that comes from having 3 freeways nearby, not to mention San Fernando Road, Riverside Drive et al is a much bigger health hazard than the trains.
