Don't know about the one you saw, but some "slot machines" are integrasted pieces of MOW equipment. This means they are not a locomotive and train with crew, they are like a ballast regulator with one operator for the whole machine. In some cases the trackhoe operator has a "remote control box" built inside the trackhoe cab that allows him to control movement of the entire slot machine.
