After spending decades occupying a stall in the back of the East Ely Engine House, the Nevada Northern Railway Museum recently did some cosmetic restoration on Rotary Snow Plow "B" and decided to include her in the annual February photo shoots. Although the plow's steam engine is still inoperable, the museum was able to assemble an all-NN rotary plow train and make runbys for the cameras. Mother nature cooperated and provided appropriate weather conditions, and by throwing a little of the white stuff strategically on the impeller blades, we ended up with some pretty believable photos. Here is a sample of the take from the first weekend:
Rotary B before the cosmetic surgery
And after the magic
Returning from "battle" in a blizzard
Passing the freight house
The Rotary Pilot up front
Passing the only trees on the entire 150 mile line
Passing the iconic coaling tower
Coming back to the barn
With steam rotaries definitely on the endangered species list, here's hoping we see more of Rotary B in the coming years!
