In the early 1900's, Southern Pacific had a "Fuel Oil Department" that owned and drilled on properties in California, including in the Midway Sunset Fields in Kern County. I am not sure if they owned and drilled on properties outside of California. I just found this information myself a couple weeks ago but have not been able to research into it further yet.
