Years ago I looked into taking the "Scenic" trip from Vancouver to Banf . Granted the trip was well planned with all moves during daylight. The problem was the accomodations . Departure was at 0700 local and moved East to the first stop which was about a third of the total distance. There you had to get off the train and go to a hotel which was not included in the price of the train ride. Your party was responsible for dinner, hotel AND waking in time to re-board the train for that days leg. Personally taking a vacation and having to rely on an alarm clock seemed a bit counter to the idea of a vacation. The other problem was the total cost was three times the cost of an all inclusive 5 day cruise to the bahamas including round trip air fare and no alarm clock was needed.
