Lines with seasonal use? (Donner related)

The post a bit down about Norden to shed 47 got me thinking about seasonal use (i.e. re-installing the old main but using it May-Nov when ice is not a problem.) I don't personally see that happening at all, but I'm curious if there is anywhere else in the U.S. where something like this happens? Since Donner Pass gets some of the deepest snow in the U.S. and it doesn't happen there I am fairly certain the answer to my question is just "no" but curious if anyone out there knows more.
