Not in California, but ex-SP 5399, 4364 is preserved in Oregon in Black Widow colors as LLW 5399.
Sadly of the various railroad historical societies and museums, not a single one of them has any interest in seeing a SD9 preserved despite its significance as the most symbolic diesel locomotive of western Oregon from the 1970s to the 1990s. The Port of Tillamook Bay has scrapped all of them except for one ex-SP and two ex-BN units, but who knows how much longer they will survive. The engine of the former 4381 now is inside the former Great Northern F-9, and the OCSR group has one of the former GP9s. The Portland & Western Railroad still operates two and a couple GP9s. Doubtful that any of the P&W locomotives will be preserved; when they are done, they'll be done.
