Hi all,

I had a chance to see 261 for the first time in almost 5 years this past weekend. She was taken out of service in the fall of 2008 as she was due for her FRA mandated 15 year / 1472 day inspection, and the 10 year lease with the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, WI (owners of the locomotive) was set to expire. After finally reaching a deal to purchase the locomotive from the museum in 2010, Railroading Heritage of Midwest America (Friends of the 261), began working to return her to service.

This weekend she pulled her first public excursion since 2008, operating from Minneapolis to Duluth on Saturday May 11th, and returning to Minneapolis on Sunday the 12th. On Saturday evening, Soo Line 4-6-2 #2719 pulled a dinner train from the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth to Palmers with some of the 261 coaches. Both locomotives looked and sounded great. Here's a short excerpt of video I shot over the weekend: [www.youtube.com]
