George, BNSF uses Erie Street for, among other things, interchange with UP. For example, not all of the traffic in and out of the UP Yard is handled by the MSKHK/MHKSK. UP's yard switcher, and occasionally the Plummer Turn, will wander over to Erie Street to pick up or drop off cars that BNSF has for them.
