At some point, maybe merger time, UP changed from the Z as a suffix to a prefix. I believe it happened all at once, and there were not dual formats of symbols running around. I also recall during the suffix days that manifest trains generally did not have a suffix; it was usually auto, stack, unit and Z trains that had a suffix. I have numerous slides labeled HKSE, SEGL, but the z trains all have their suffix. CSSEZ being my favorite.

Of course that was also when non-standard symbols existed like the NWCDDS and NWCDDN twins.
