Wow, thanks everyone for the nice comments! I have to confess that XC ski access to this location wasn't too difficult. From the trailhead near Soda Springs, Royal Gorge Ski Resort has groomed trails out to their warming hut near Kilborn Lake. Depending on which trail you take, it's about 90 minutes of pleasant skiing to the warming hut where you can get a sandwich and coffee, then head over to the mainline to watch the action.
