There were a couple of runbys on the Sunday trip back to Cheyenne with the fireman making some black smoke for the photographers. You don't see much black smoke nowadays (nor do they do many runbys). Usually, the only time you see smoke is when they sand the flues, normally when they're accelerating after a stop. Pretty much all mainline steam is fired very efficiently now - no wasted fuel.
