The discussion of "last runs" of SP steam comes up on a regular basis. This has to be one of the last regular scheduled REVENUE freight runs pulled by SP steam. I know steam lasted late on the Modoc, Bay Area commutes and maybe a local across Nevada, but eliminate any publicity, deadhead, stationary boiler and railfan trips and by 1959 there were hardly any left in service.

Anyone care to list any remaining western or common carrier narrow gauge steam operations after this date? Obviously DRGW, didn't Westside run in 1960? Hadn't White Pass and Newfoundland dieselized by 1959?

To John West - It is always a pleasure and privilege to see your photos, and any you share are appreciated. I was born two months after SP #9s last run, so the efforts you and others made long ago is the only way I can experience what was.
