The East/West King's development of the old Eureka Yard (Balloon Track) is stalled. His "Arkley Center for the Performing Arts" is closed, for one reason or another, and the re-creation of the Eureka waterfront is the "port that never was." The concrete slabs and "flags-of-all-nations" are cleaner and aimed at the tourist, but there was just something about that dirty, rat infested port that spelled adventure and history......gone now. Every time a cruise ship books Humboldt Bay something embarrassing happens, ususally weather related, but the "no-mans-land" distance getting ashore doesn't impress visitors. Most of them want to see "The Redwoods" anyway, which requires a moderate bus ride. The closing of the last pulp mill seems to have sent these guys into a panic. The latest wrinkle is the donation of the pulp mill to the Harbor District so the public can clean up the mess.

......and for Rich Hunn, Kevin has left the building.
