Westside Express Service

Westside Express Service, or WES, is the name selected by TriMet for the regional rail service between the Portland suburbs of Beaverton and Wilsonville. The agency conducted a "name the train" contest to find a suitable name, and 18 respondents sent in the winner.

As for WES construction, it's proceeding swiftly. Platforms are going in at Tigard and at the Beaverton Transit Center, while the new right-of-way along Lombard is about half finished. New signals to cover the double-track portions of the route are now in place (but not yet in service) at the east end of the St. Marys yard, just south of Hall Blvd. in Progress, and on both sides of the Tigard Transit Center.

Portland & Western is installing a new yard along the former Tillamook Branch alignment just south of Hall Blvd. in Tigard. It has also designated the control point just north of the Tigard station, where the double track ends, as CP Greton", replacing the old "CP Greton" just to the north, where the old OE alignment split from the old SP alignment. The old OE alignment through Tigard is now just bare ballast.
