Sumpter Valley Railroad in NE Oregon has ended its regular season but still has some special trains on the schedule.

Friday October 11 - Two runs on regular schedule from McEwen to Sumpter and return. Event for the general public, plenty of walk-up tickets available with some photo opportunities.

Saturday and Sunday October 12-13 - All day photo trains for the hard core rail photographer. Several runbys at various proven locations, continental breakfast and lunch included. Wear good shoes as many of the photo lines are on dredge tailings. Reservations strongly recommended.

Power for these trains will be wood burning Heisler #3. Train will probably be a mixed train of SVRY and other historic narrow gauge equipment. Consist is usually varied between Saturday and Sunday.

Christmas Trains Sat-Sun Dec 7-8, 14-15 - 2-8-2 #19 is expected to be the power on these trains. It is waiting for its FRA steam test inspection so it can be fully reassembled after its 15 year/1472 day boiler repairs.

Limited motels and cabin space in Sumpter, plenty of rooms available in Baker City (exit 304 on I-84) just 25 miles away via Oregon Hwy 7. We have already had snow in the surrounding mountain peaks but it is melting. Another mid-week storm might add some more but extended forecast for weekend isn't too bad for this time of year.
