Given the interest here in the Yreka Western RR, this is an interesting story:
Quote:NewsYreka — An influx of jobs may be on the horizon in the golden city, as Fruit Growers Supply Company (FGS) – a California agricultural supply cooperative with timberland holdings along the West Coast – has announced its plans to build and operate a small log mill in Yreka.
Whether the facility comes to fruition is dependent on FGS's acquisition of appropriate property, said FGS Senior Vice President of Northern Operations Charles Brown.
Brown said he cannot estimate a salary range for the new employment positions, though he said the mill is anticipated to bring between 30 and 40 "really good-paying industrial jobs to the area."
Noting that FGS has been working to establish the mill in Yreka for over a year, Brown said the organization has its sights set on the old Hi-Ridge plant, which spans approximately 65 acres, and is located across from Timber Products on Phillipe Lane. The property is currently in escrow, though Brown noted there is no guarantee FGS will successfully acquire this land.
