A similar concept is what has been used in past years to get rail equipment in and out of the spur to the Oregon state fairgrounds in Salem.

The spur, off the UP, former SP main, used to have a grade crossing at NE 17th Street. After the grade crossing was removed, crews would use a section of panel track to move equipment in and out for the Oregon State Fair, the Marion County Fair, or other events.

The city of Portland's own former SP GS4 "Daylight" 4-8-4, #4449 has made this trip in and out of the fairgrounds on several occasions.
