The correct designation is UPY 894, and indeed the Y signifies captive yard service.

As someone pointed out, this is the unit that suffered a fuel leak on 1/8/13 in the wee hours. The cause was isolated to a cracked fuel flare fitting, steps have been taken to reinforce the line on all Gensets, including all railroads.

894 will join 895-899 in hump service at Roseville upon return and after a brief respite to effect some upgrades the other units are getting.

Each Genset saves up to 25,000 gallons of fuel per year, and about 4,000 pounds of emissions.
