Continuing on with Frank Saarni's trip across the US while in the Army during WW2...

On the morning of May 9, 1945, Frank left Denver on C&S train 31 for Cheyenne. Power was engine 350 (Pacific?). They arrived Cheyenne at 5 minutes after Noon.

Frank now was on the UP behind engine 2289, the power for train 335 to La Salle, leaving Cheyenne
at 1420 and arriving La Salle at 1650.

He quickly transferred to train 16 with 2864 as power, leaving La Salle at 1705 and arriving North Platte at 2320. Power was changed here and they got a little 800, the 803 and left for Omaha at 2330, arriving there at 0815 on the 10th.

Train 16 was now handled by the C&NW with 2910 as power, leaving Omaha at 0830 and arriving Chicago at 2050 that night.

Frank now was in Pennsy territory and he left the Windy City at 2200 on train 54 behind 5654 for Pittsburg, arriving there at 0800 on the 11th. Power was changed out again and he now had engine 3671 for Harrisburg. They left Pittsburg at 0830 and arrived Harrisburg at 1342.

Train 2 out of Harrisburg had 1388 as the road engine and Atlantic 402 as a helper all the way to Baltimore. They got here at 1610.

Frank continued to Washington on No. 2, now with 4896 (GG1?) arriving there at 1700. The next morning, he was on No. 148 out of Washington for Jessup on the B&O with engine 5307. It was a short 30 minute trip.

Frank's notes now go to another titled page but continue with the next day showing him leaving Baltimore on the Pennsy on No. 126 with engine 4938, arriving New York at 1300 on the 13th. Just before midnight, he left New York for Fort Meade on 161 with 4892 as power, arriving there at 0316 on the 14th. He was here for about a week.

I was in error when I titled this Oakland to Baltimore. It should have been to Fort Meade.

UP 2200 class might have been 2-8-2s. More than other western roads, they used this type in secondary passenger service. Some of them got disc main drivers for this service.
