As early as 1947 there was a heliport at LAUPT, or to be more precise, the Los Angeles Terminal Annex Post Office adjacent to LAUPT. The post office had direct access to trains for mail loading and unloading. The helicopters landed on top of the post office building. I have a recollection of a helicopter falling off the side of the building onto Macy Street, later named Ceasar Chavez Blvd.
