Trolley frogs come in several varieties. Those used by MUNI have ramps that push a pantograph down to ride under a conventional wire frog.

Car damage is far from total(bless those headline writers). Streetcar companies usually kept spare car ends in stock for rapid repair of this kind of damage. I didn't see any sign of platform knee damage in the limited photos available of this incident. However knees are fabricated and can be replaced easily. In the old days a car with this damage probably would be back on the street within a week.
