I must be having a senior moment. I thought I read more than three decades ago where the agreement for the use of the locomotive and tender, the City Of Portland required that the locomotive and tender be painted in Daylight colors after the return from the AFT trip. At this time I can't locate that document. A written comment I could locate is in a book by Richard K Wright entitled America's Bicentennial Queen Engine 4449 "The Lone Survivor". On page 45,upper right corner, "The crew will repaint 4449 to Daylight colors when she is relesased fromt the Freedom Train assignment". There is no reference to the city requiring it to be repainted in this book. As an aside, page 3 has some pictures of some youthfull folk amoung which is an Edward Immel sitting at a desk with a telephone in his hand.
I'm not pushing it but it still looks sharp in AFT colors and for a short time Doyle repainted them in AFT paint and later it was returned to renowned Dalight colors not so long ago. Like em both.
By the way. Hats off to the dedicated people performing the fifteen year inspection and the repairs for another fifteen years. Thanks folks.
