Add up all the derailments at that milepost and you'll likely find they happen on all days of the month. Its not the milepost, its the 10+ degree curve and in this case being broadside to the mountain downdrafts.
There was a time (before head-hardened rail) when the curve had to be re-laid every 9 months (with 132 lb jointed rail). Before they were scrapped, BN banned the U25Cs and U28Cs (ex-NP and CB&Q) from that hill.
