While it is longer than using Metrolink trackage to San Bernardino then change to BNSF tracks (via UP trackage rights) at San Bernardino to Colton Jct then West to West Colton UP Engine facilities, it gets the train off of Metrolink trackage as soon as possible as Metrolink has trains to run.

It also eliminates what is probably a tight curve at Colton Jct.
