Usually, because of the commute traffic, (read Amtrak and Metrolink) the good stuff runs at night. Late whistles (horns) announce UP traffic late (10P-4AM) running both directions up the coast as well as the Palmdale route. (I live in Burbank, so I get both where the tracks join. I would guess the best place is San Luis Obispo since it would seem like both North(west) and South(east) traffic would hit there about mid-day. Good luck.

  On the southern end of the Coast, there are Amtrak's LOSSAN's "north", with 2 roundtrips to/from SLO, 2 Pitty 02-04-2014 - 13:33
