The ZLCBR originates in Los Angeles. It leaves the Fresno Sub in Stockton, takes the Sacramento Sub to Binney Jct in Marysville, then heads north up the Valley Sub.

I don't believe that any trains use the entire route from Oakland to SLC. The intermodal trains that us Altamont Pass take the Fresno Sub at Stockton and head to Roseville. From there over Donner east.
