Its extremely sad when one learns of such a waste. Just take a look at any British railway magazine and see how many passenger cars have been restored over the years from any era. The most beautiful are the Victorian and Edwardian vintage restored to former glory as well as Pullmans and regular carriages. This way, complete authentic trains can be run on the main line or on the many preserved lines.

Most of this is done by volunteers who put in countless hours at preserved railways so that the railway history is preserved, while the US lets it rot away.
