Old Cross Tie film - amazing stuff

A gem of a film about one of the biggest tie makers in the U.S. tracking the production of cross ties from the forest to the road bed way back in the 20's. It is amazing how these workers lived to see their 25th birthdays!! In one scene they open the doors of the retort creosote treating cylinder and the smoke and garbage belches out at them and none of the workers is wearing a mask or any protection. From there, still dripping with fresh creosote these ties are hand loaded into box cars to be shipped. Can you imagine what those guys smelled like and the toxins they had in their systems?? Longevity was probably not a term they had in their vocabulary? Pretty amazing 23 minute piece of film if you have the time.
