E-units on Amtrak's San Joaquin May 1974

It was May of 1974, the government of the United States seemed to be in a Watergate inspired free fall of self destruction and the Nixon resignation was still months away. With that as a backdrop, Amtrak's recently inaugurated San Joaquin rolls into Martinez behind hand-me-down E units. The E's only last a few weeks and would soon be replaced on this train with former SP FP7's.
