All the passenger trains will move to the Bypass Bypass line. The route they will take (2017 or later) is sort of the, original NP route, with the Pt Defiance being the first Bypass route. This new route will only be in part across the NP Prairie line, partially (about .5 mile) across an entirely new line, built by Sound Transit, and then over the old Milwaukee Main. Finally, the route traverses a short connecting ramp between the Milwaukee line and the NP mains (BNSF).

Part of the upgrade will be to remove the Milwaukee trestle just east of the current Sounder station, and replace it with a two track structure. There will also be a new Passenger station built there, which is currently being debated.
