I'm sure he and his invention has been cursed to no end by many railroad officials.

We tied up the train one day for lunch, and walking into town I saw a couple of rail bikes outside the local bar. We ran at 10 mph restricted limits - but still ... Look on a map for Westby, Montana (hint - it was Westby, North Dakota until an official surveyor showed up!). Those guys had to desperate and crazy to be riding that line, and it was and still is an active line (DMVW), so it was trespassing.
