The California State Railroad Museum does have a history's of exhibiting equipment that has been displayed in the museum at special events. The CP Huntington has been rolled out of the building on at least one occasion and actually was given an unofficial air test and probably could potentially could be restored. Previous posters on the topic are correct. The CP Huntington will probably never be restored to operation. It is a one of a kind locomotive that has a fantastic history as the mascot for the Southern Pacific Railroad and now as the logo for the CSRM. It would not be worth the risk involved. As mentioned previously the metal in the boiler is over 150 years old. In the 1980's the CSRM Foundation brought up the topic of possibly funding the restoration of the CP Huntington and the museum's director correctly stated that the CP Huntington is an artifact and should be maintained in the condition that it was in when it was gifted to the CSRM. At that time they did not have a problem with carefully displaying it at other locations, but I do not believe the current museum management would ever take the chance of moving off the CSRM property.
