The old boilers were dug up last year (not 12-15 years ago) as part of soil remediation clean-up efforts to make the land surrounding the historic buildings meet current environmental standards for redevelopment and to make way for construction of Railyard Boulevard. About twelve were recovered, the ones seen stacked West of the Boiler Shop were judged worthy of keeping as artifacts and were given to the Museum buy the developer, the rest were removed from the property and probably recycled as scrap. The kept boilers will likely be integrated into development around the new Museum of Railroad Technology planned for the historic buildings.
