I still have a hard time understanding why BNSF has been so reticent over the years to just give this line to MRL. So what if MRL interchanges with UP near Butte? There's still no way for UP to use MRL up to Sandpoint, right? So any interchange would be strictly nickel and dime local traffic.
Also, wasn't MRL in talks with UP to take over the Butte-Pocatello line a while back? If so, wouldn't that give BNSF back door access to Southern Idaho?
