Shot 3 shows the OTR and 5623 on Union Street, not Poplar, just south of 10th Street in Oakland. California Cereal Products (aka Shredded Wheat) is in the distance and Cole Elementary School is the large building on the NW corner of 10th.
Union Street was never Key System track, but was the new connection between the WP and Key trackage at 12th & Poplar that allowed the SN to discontinue their steep Oakland hills route in 1957 or so. After Key System trains were discontinued in April 1958 their Poplar Street track was torn up and replaced with single track used by the Oakland Terminal until they stopped serving CCP several years ago.
Great photo of the classic black widow working on the OTR in a scene that will never be seen again. BTW, Union Street track is still in place, owned by UP, but not used in ages.
