They did (27, the SF Overland and WP 17, the CZ Zephyr detouring) pass 101 on the Number Two track and managers sought permission to stop these trains to pick up the passengers. DJ Russell refused to grant permission due to the unstable snow pack and the possiblity of creating two stranded trains if there were anymore slides.
