A woman who lives in Sprague, WA, told reporters that her son observed individuals shooting firearms and setting off some kind of explosives (mentioned at the bottom of the KHQ report), and that those persons fled the scene once the fire started.
Four or five aircraft were hitting that fire with retardant, some (if not all) flying out of the small Coeur d'Alene airport where a local Phos-Chek supplier operates (their regional offices and equipment storage yard are in Post Falls, right next to where I work).
I'm told that there will be some amazing imagery off the M-HKETB's cab camera, if it ever gets downloaded.
