This crossing was likely the reason the Oakdale Local normally ran late at night. Besides the normal crossbucks and gates, there were large overhead red neon signs reading "STOP - TRAIN." In all the nights I drove 99 to work in Stockton, I only saw the SP going across once.

I have a (dim) memory of driving on Interstate 80 west of Salt Lake City in 1977 and coming across an at-grade crossing of the Salt Lake Garfield & Western. It was protected by nothing but a pair of crossbucks, but the track obviously hadn't been used in years.
