It is our government, we are the government, and when we vote or choose not to, we get the government we deserve.
Doesn't the "government" (of Santa Cruz County) owns this railroad, so it is a bridge owned by the citizen, through there government? So spending the citizens monies, approved by an elected legislature, on a public asset to maintain the utility and viability of this public asset is wrong how?
Since I like trains, and like to see us maintain our rail network, and know that there have been and are significant benefits from having a well developed transportation system, I tend to support this project. I hope they do begin to move trash by rail, it's needed, as our landfill's fill up, cause damage and pollution to aquifers, and costs rise for consumers, trash by rail to distant disposal makes more and more sense.
Yes, many of these nimby's are idiots, and if we listened to them, we'd freeze to death in the dark. However, the environmental deniers are also idiots, and if we listen to them, our grandchildren are screwed. So maybe the truth lies somewhere in between these two ignorant extremes?
Yes, there is sometimes corruption in our human institutions, including our governments our corporations, our communities, and even sometimes in our own families. Yes there is pettiness, ignorance, venality, narcissism, and irrationality involved in these decisions by our representatives. Well, welcome to planet earth, where we humans are in charge..... But, if you believe in conspiracy theories run by space aliens, who are always secretly conspiring to do who knows what.....it won't do much to fix it, will it?
Meanwhile, I'm happy to see this work proceeding. Please keep up those updates, the pictures were great.
