If the news releases are correct the generation II cars are the cars Metrolink recieved in 1997. There are only four cab cars left in this group (632-637). 634 was wrecked. Generation II coaches are 164-182 and one (177) was wrecked. So it appears "surplus" is a term of art as I believe the coaches are in service? Caltrain is taking 16 so it could be all coaches?
