Isn't barge-to-ship transload easier than rail-to-ship? Something about being able to use a larger/wider scoop, less equipment to move around, etc.

Also, what was the name of that ship that directly lifted loaded barges into it's hull? It was utilized for a while on the Gulf Coast, but I haven't seen any reference to it lately.

Something like that could bypass the need to dock at all on the lower Columbia. Wouldn't that make the Portland environmentalists happier? Or not ......
