During Desert Storm, someone taped a small American flag to the station sign. Fortunately, no one defaced it instead. During the 80s/90s,the Marine Corps periodically unloaded trainloads of military vehicles there for maneuvers at Twentynine Palms (maybe still do, for all I know).
