The move to 4th and Townsend was made in June 1975. I think it was something like June 10. The 3rd and Townsend building was torn down in two phases. The half closest to Townsend Street, which was the taller waiting room area was torn down fairly soon after the move. The half of the old depot closest to King Street housed some railroad and crew offices and stayed standing for another year or two. I recall seeing this being torn down also in 1976 or 1977.

This was near the time of the last Trainmaster run on Feb. 5, 1975 (engine # 3031 pulling northbound afternoon three car train # 147). The three GP40P-2s were delivered in late 1974, I believe, but were used in freight service for several months. I believe the first GP40P-2 run in commute service was the very first offical commute train out of the new 4th and Townsend station. Bicentennial painted 3197 pulled the 6:10am departure out of S.F.

An RV Park stood on the block where the station and platforms were for many years. Recently, a shopping center was built on the site, which is across the street from the current 4th and Townsend station.
