In my neighborhood of West Hill Auburn, WA., I cannot usually hear the train horns during the daytime hours, due to the normal noise & din of a metropolitan area. Yet at night, as the area settles down for the night, I can hear both BNSF & EwePee trains ( Amtrak too ) as they traverse the Auburn - Kent Valley. A West wind off the Cascades really helps too. I live less than a mile from Interstate 5 ( much busier therefore louder during daytime hours ), and also the flight path for SeaTac International Airport ( noisy pretty much 24/7 ). After 8 years here, I have subconsiously blocked out much of this noise, except for the Emirates Airways B777 that had an engine flame out shortly after takeoff a few years ago !!!
