Even though I don't especially enjoy earthquakes, I would much rather be in southern California than the New Madrid Fault Zone. At least here most of the buildings are designed to withstand quakes of a 7 magnitude or thereabouts, while in places like Memphis there are lots of unreinforced masonry buildings that will fail in a quake in the mid-5 range of magnitude.

Anyway, in places like Oklahoma the big threat from Mother Nature to your safety is mostly tornadoes. And your fellow human beings.
