Bob might have been thinking of the "Island Mountain Quarry" which was proposed some years ago, but which required rail access because it's too far from any decent roads. I don't seen any sign of it as a going operation large enough to find in Google Earth view.

Amusing: if you put "Island Mountain Quarry" into the Google Maps search box, it comes up with several options. Choose the one in Mendocino County and you get a spot (a bar?) in downtown Fort Bragg about a block from the Skunk Train.

Access to the proposed quarry was a major fighting point in the environmental wars over SMART and the present incarnation of NWP. Killing the train was seen as a necessity for preventing the quarry.
